I write to explore social topics through the dark lens of family life.
I'm Heather Lynch — author, I live in London and worked in social care for fifteen years. It took me two years to write my first memoir called Take Care which explores the topic of social care during the Covid19 pandemic. I truly hope you get much enjoyment reading my first memoir as I did writing it.
How I got here
When my father died in a care home, I set out to write about his story of strength and courage during his fight against Parkinsons disease that was taking away his agility and the sharpness of his mind. I doing so I found myself exploring the topic of social care from two perspectives as the professional carer and the informal carer. I had kept a diary in the first year I started as an informal carer for my father as well as helping nurse my mother through cancer. It was a particularly difficult year as the the covid19 pandemic had the country in a lockdown.
What surprised me was how resourceful I become and how my relationship with my parents changed from them treating me as child to them seeing me as the adult I had become.
